Graeme Souness's first games as Rangers' player-manager in 1986.
Graeme Souness was appointed Rangers' first player-manager on 7 April 1986 by chairman David Holmes, joining from Sampdoria in Italy for £300,000. His first match in charge was the club's last league fixture of that season, on 3 May 1986, when he and his assistant Walter Smith were introduced to a crowd of 22,000 at Ibrox.

Six days later Souness won his first trophy, a 3–2 extra-time win over Celtic in the Glasgow Cup Final, with an Ally McCoist hat-trick. His first league match of the next season began badly: a foul on Hibernian's George McCluskey got him sent off, and he watched the 2–1 defeat from the stands.
