In the 2006–2007 season, he played for the Utah Eagles in the Continental Basketball Association and also saw action in Belgium. The New York Knicks came calling on June 11, 2007, signing him for the 2007 Summer League. Earlier that season, the Knicks had offered a 10-day contract, but Berdiel couldn’t take it because his Belgian team, Dexia-Mons Hainaut, didn’t release him. After the Las Vegas Summer Pro League with New York, he headed to Brazil for the 2007 Pan-American Games as part of the Puerto Rican national squad, taking home a silver medal. On November 1, 2007, the Albuquerque Thunderbirds selected him with the 12th pick of the sixth round in the NBDL Draft—his second straight year being drafted. Later, on May 21, 2008, the Indiana Pacers asked him to join their summer rookie league.
