Biography
Christian Dalmau was born on August 29, 1975, and is a retired professional basketball player from Puerto Rico. He is currently the head coach of the Vaqueros de Bayamón in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN). He is the second son of the legendary Puerto Rican basketball star Raymond Dalmau. Over his career, Dalmau played in the NCAA, the National Basketball Development League, and the BSN, as well as internationally in Turkey, Poland, and Israel. He was part of the Puerto Rican National Team that beat the United States at the 2004 Olympics.
Dalmau started his pro career in 1993 with the Piratas de Quebradillas in the BSN. Though he showed promise as a rookie, the team traded him for more experienced players. He landed with the Maratonistas de Coamo, where he became a star. In 1996, he joined the new BSN team Avancinos de Villalba and stayed there until 1998. When Villalba folded after three seasons, Dalmau went back to Coamo for two years, then was traded to the Atleticos de San German in 2001.
During the 2002–2003 season, Dalmau signed with the Mobile Revelers of the National Basketball Development League. He was named the league’s Most Valuable Player in 2004. That same year, he replaced his brother, Richie, on the Puerto Rican National Team. He also played for Hapoel Galil Elyon in the Israeli Basketball League. From 2005 to 2007, he played in Poland for Prokom Trefl Sopot. For the 2007–08 season, he suited up for Beşiktaş Cola Turka in Turkey. In July 2008, he signed with PBC Ural Great Perm in the Russian Basketball Super League 1.
In 2009, Dalmau returned to the BSN to play for the Vaqueros de Bayamón. He led them to the 2009 BSN Championship and was named Finals MVP. In 2010, after being named league MVP during the regular season, he guided Bayamón to a second straight BSN Finals appearance, but they lost game seven at home to the Capitanes de Arecibo.
After the 2012 BSN season with Bayamón, now in his late 30s, Dalmau moved between several teams over the next five years. In the BSN, he played for the Mets de Guaynabo, the Cangrejeros de Santurce, and returned to his original team, the Piratas de Quebradillas. He also played for Halcones Xalapa in Mexico’s Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional. Dalmau returned to Bayamón in 2017 and retired from playing at the end of that season.
In 2018, he became head coach of the senior boys basketball team at Central Pointe Christian Academy, a small prep high school in Kissimmee, Florida. In March 2020, the team won the Sunshine Independent Athletic Association championship.
