Background
In Ryland Grace's memories he is young and striking, with eyes full of determination: a stern, quiet, straightforward military man who understood the weight of the mission and would have given his life for it or his crew, so honourable that Stratt called it annoying. He bows to greet Stratt and speaks perfect English with a slight accent. Grace, waking as the sole survivor, judges that Yáo died before Olesya Ilyukhina and gives both a funeral by releasing their bodies through the airlock. In the film he is an older man who jokes and sings karaoke with Ilyukhina, and is played by Ken Leung.
