Plot summary
The adventure involves Vecna's plan to shatter the multiverse, which some fans have used as an in-game explanation for the differences between the 2nd and 3rd editions of Dungeons & Dragons. The module's closing paragraph describes the aftermath: Vecna's time in the crux caused changes in superspace. The Lady of Pain attempts to heal the damage, but some Outer Planes drift off and are lost, others collide and merge, and at least one Inner Plane runs aground on a distant world of the Prime. The nature of the Prime Material Plane itself is altered, with half-worlds multiplying a millionfold and alternate dimensions hinted at. New realms are revealed, entities long thought lost emerge, and other creatures are eradicated. Some common spells begin to work differently, with changes revealed over subsequent months.
