Overview
The Philippine adaptations of the game show follow the American blueprint closely, featuring the One Bid segment with a 1,000 peso bonus for an exact guess, various pricing games, two Showcase Showdowns, and a final Showcase round, though each version has its own quirks. Both shows use male and female models, and both are hosted by women. The ABC network’s version originally had six contestants, split into two groups of three for the Showdowns, with the winners meeting in the Showcase. It started by using the Australian format from 1981, where players took turns guessing a showcase’s price and the winner rearranged the items from cheapest to most expensive. Later, it switched to the standard American format. This version only aired on Sundays. The ABS-CBN version began with just four contestants, two per Showdown, and the winners faced a third, single-spin Showdown to decide who reached the Showcase. That round used the British and European system, where contestants picked a range and bid on one showcase to fall within it without going over the actual price. Later, ABS-CBN reduced the show to three contestants in one Showdown to determine the Showcase player. Each contestant was also paired with two other players who earned money if the main contestant won a pricing game. This version started on weekdays but moved to Saturdays due to low ratings. For music, ABS-CBN used the US show’s soundtrack along with some original cues, and also played the theme from the British version hosted by Joe Pasquale during the Showcase Showdown wheel spin. It was the first non-afternoon program to use Studio 3 after Wowowee ended, taking over from Pilipinas Win Na Win. The ABC version, in contrast, used entirely original music.
