Wang Cheng-pang first appeared at the 2004 Summer Olympics, where he competed in men's individual archery. He won his first match, advancing to the round of 32, but was defeated in the second round, finishing 17th overall. He was also a member of the Chinese Taipei men's team that won the silver medal at those Games. At the 2006 Asian Games, he won a silver medal with the men's team comprising himself, Chen Szu-yuan, Kuo Cheng-wei, and Hsu Tzu-yi.

At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Wang scored 667 points in the ranking round, placing him 11th seed. He defeated Tashi Peljor of Bhutan 110–100 in the first round but lost to Moriya Ryuichi 114–109 in the second round. In the team event, he joined Chen Szu-Yuan and Kuo Cheng-Wei; after ranking seventh, they beat the United States 222–218 but lost to Ukraine 214–211 in the quarter-finals.

At the 2012 Summer Olympics, Wang was ranked 33rd after the ranking round. He defeated Daniel Felipe Pineda of Colombia 6–0 in the first knockout round, then lost 4–6 to Im Dong Hyun in the last 32. In the team event, his team lost 206–216 to eventual gold medalists Italy.
