Casey Kaufhold
American recurve archer and Olympic medalist.
Casey Kaufhold (born March 6, 2004) is an American recurve archer. She became the first U.S. archer in more than three decades to win a medal in the women’s individual event at the World Archery Championships, taking silver in 2021. She also represented the United States at both the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
At the 2020 Olympics, Kaufhold placed 17th in the women’s individual ranking round, then defeated Spain’s Inés de Velasco before losing to Japan’s Ren Hayakawa. In the women’s team event, the American squad finished third in the opening round and was eliminated by the Russian Olympic Committee team. Two months after those Games, at the 2021 World Archery Championships in Yankton, South Dakota, she beat Olympic champion An San of South Korea in the semifinals before falling to Jang Min-hee of South Korea in the gold medal match.
Earlier in her career, at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, Kaufhold won bronze in the women’s individual recurve and gold in both the women’s team and mixed team recurve events. That same year, she and Josef Scarboro took silver in the cadet mixed team recurve at the World Archery Youth Championships in Madrid. At the 2019 Archery World Cup in Medellín, Colombia, she and Brady Ellison earned silver in the mixed team competition. Also in 2019, she set a junior world record for the 72-arrow, 70-meter ranking round with a score of 675.
At the 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials, she set an under-21 world record of 682 in the qualification round. Later that year, at the Junior Pan American Games in Cali, Colombia, she won gold in the mixed team event, silver in the women’s team event, and bronze in the women’s individual event. World Archery Americas named her the 2021 Athlete of the Year in the recurve cadet women category.
In 2022, she won the women’s recurve event at the Vegas Shoot in Las Vegas. At the 2023 World Archery Championships in Berlin, she lost the bronze medal match in the women’s individual recurve and also competed in the women’s team and mixed team events. She won three medals, including two golds, at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile. At the 2024 Pan American Archery Championships in Medellín, she took gold in both the women’s individual recurve and women’s team recurve events.
