Bailando por un Sueño (Argentine TV series)

Argentine dance competition adapted from Strictly Come Dancing.

Bailando por un Sueño, shortened to Bailando, is an Argentine dance competition that began on El Trece in April 2006. Hosted by Marcelo Tinelli, it adapts the British show Strictly Come Dancing as part of the Dancing with the Stars franchise. Originally, celebrities danced with amateurs to fulfill a dream, but from season five onward, they partnered with professionals for charity. Unlike other versions, it airs four times weekly, with couples performing one dance style per round over several episodes.

Cast

Marcelo Tinelli has hosted the program since its premiere in 2006. The current announcers are Marcela Feudale, Raúl «Larry» DeClay, Jorge «Carna» Crivelli and Walter «Chino» D'Angelo; they accompany Tinelli in each broadcast, interacting with him and adding live comedy through voice-over. The judging panel has changed in size over the seasons: four members for the first five seasons, a fifth added in season 6, six in season 8, then five after Antonio Gasalla withdrew midway through that season, and back to four from season 9 onward. Guest judges appear when official judges are unavailable. From the thirteenth season, a BAR (Bailando Assistant Referee) was introduced to evaluate technique; in the fourteenth season its focus shifted more to choreographic level.

Scoring and voting procedure

Judges give numeric scores from 0 to 10 (from season 10 onward; previously the lowest was 1). With four to six judges, the highest possible score has ranged from 40 to 60. Each round, one judge holds a "secret score" that is revealed only after all couples have performed. The lowest-scored couples then enter a Duel, where they repeat the same dance and the judges decide which couples advance until only two remain; the audience then votes via text messages for one of those two. In the first three seasons, the two lowest-scored couples went directly to the public vote. This process repeats until the final five couples are sent directly to a Duel with a new dance style. The final four are split randomly into two Semifinals, where three or four previously performed dances are shown again; judges vote for one couple, and audience text-message totals are added to that vote. The same process determines the winner in the Season Finale. For the first four seasons, the winner's dream was fulfilled; from season 5 onward, the winner's chosen charity receives money that varies according to needs. All celebrities generally help their chosen charity by fundraising, regardless of their success in the show.

General information

The first withdrawal was La Hiena Barrios in season four; José María Listorti replaced him. Later that season, Catherine Fulop left after crying on air that the judges were too harsh and her efforts were not valued; Cinthia Fernández took her place shortly before the Season Finale. In season five, Ilona Staller withdrew after the first round citing a rib fracture, replaced by Adabel Guerrero. Evangelina Anderson left in round 24 after dancing pregnant; Eliana Guercio replaced her but resigned after one performance, and Claudia Fernández then took over only to be eliminated after one performance. In season six, Luciana Salazar left due to anemia, replaced by Vanina Escudero; later, returning Evangelina Anderson resigned again, and Belén Francese, who had been eliminated, returned in her place. Season seven saw five couples resign: Mike Tyson and Pamela Anderson could not travel to Argentina; Jorge Luengo and Paula Chaves replaced them. Wanda Nara left after becoming pregnant, replaced by her sister Zaira. Rocío Guirao fainted during her performance in round 6 and left; Evangelina Anderson returned for a third time to replace her. Vanina Escudero left after arguments with judges, replaced by Sofía Pachano. In season eight, Sergio Martínez left in round 2, replaced by Alexander Caniggia; Valeria Archimó resigned after problems with her partner, replaced by Adabel Guerrero; Liz Solari left for a film role, replaced by Alexandra Larsson. In season nine, Paula Chaves left to spend more time with her daughter after two consecutive seasons; as she participated with her husband, the production paired him with professional dancer Florencia Viterbo.
