History
After AXN Asia acquired the franchise, work on an Asian version of Got Talent began in late 2014 and early 2015. The show was officially announced on January 15, 2015, with judges Anggun, David Foster, Melanie C, and Vanness Wu. Marc Nelson and Rovilson Fernandez were announced as hosts on January 24. The program was popular but did not receive a second season until two years later. For the second season, Foster and Anggun remained, while Melanie C and Vanness Wu left; Jay Park joined as a new judge, and the panel had no fourth judge. Nelson and Fernandez were replaced by Alan Wong and Justin Bratton. Acts from around 28 countries participated in the second season, up from 15 in the first.
Season summary
In 2014, AXN Asia acquired the franchise for Asia's Got Talent, and open auditions were held in various cities later that year. On January 13, 2015, the judging panel was revealed as David Foster, Anggun, Vanness Wu of F4, and Melanie C of the Spice Girls. Marc Nelson and Rovilson Fernandez were announced as hosts. Judges' auditions were recorded at Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios, while semifinals and finals were held at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. Live shows were taped a few hours before airing to add subtitles for contestants not fluent in English. The first season began airing on March 12, 2015, and was won by shadow play group El Gamma Penumbra, with Khusugtun, Gerphil Flores, and The Talento placing second, third, and fourth. A photo posted on Instagram showing El Gamma Penumbra on stage with a golden buzzer background and confetti, captioned as winners, caused dismay among netizens due to the spoiler. In late May 2015, pre-registration for Season 2 was announced on the show's Facebook page, and the second season launch was announced in January 2017 after the success of The Amazing Race Asia's fifth season. On July 28, 2017, Jay Park was announced as a new judge, joining returning judges David Foster and Anggun; Alan Wong and Justin Bratton were introduced as new hosts. Judges' auditions for the second season were taped starting July 28, 2017, at Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios, and semifinals were taped from late September to early October at the same studio. The second season aired from October 12, 2017, and was won by magician The Sacred Riana, with DM-X Comvaleñoz, Neil Rey Garcia Llanes, and Canion Shijirbat finishing second, third, and fourth. On May 14, 2018, AXN Asia announced a third season, with online auditions opening two days later. Open auditions were held in Bangkok, Singapore, Manila, Ho Chi Minh, Jakarta, and Kuala Lumpur. On July 9, 2018, online auditions were extended for another week until July 16, 2018.
