Background and release

Starship Entertainment announced on March 15, 2022, that Ive would release their second single album Love Dive on April 5. The track listing, released three days later, confirmed "Love Dive" as the lead single. A promotional video titled "Dear Cupid" appeared on March 21, followed by a music video teaser and highlight medley video on April 4. The song and its music video were released the next day. A Japanese version followed on January 16, 2023.

Critical reception

Critics widely praised "Love Dive". Tássia Assis of NME called it a strong comeback, describing it as a siren song with dark, atmospheric bass and lilting vocals. Gladys Yeo of NME highlighted its mystical, captivating quality. Jung Su-min of IZM noted the dark, ominous atmosphere and effective invocation of Narcissus and Cupid myths. Kat Moon of Time described the song as dreamy and ethereal, with decadent vocals that submerge the listener.

Commercial performance

In South Korea, "Love Dive" debuted at number nine on the Gaon Digital Chart for April 3–9, 2022, and reached number one for June 12–18, 2022. On the Billboard K-pop Hot 100, it debuted at number 67 on April 16, 2022, and rose to number one on April 30, 2022. On the Billboard South Korea Songs chart, it debuted at number two on May 7, 2022, and reached number one on July 9, 2022. In New Zealand, it debuted at number 26 on the RMNZ Hot Singles for April 11, 2022, and climbed to number 11 the next week. In Singapore, it debuted at number nine on the RIAS Top Streaming Chart and number two on the RIAS Top Regional Chart for April 1–7, 2022, then rose to number two and number one, respectively, the next week; on the Billboard Singapore Songs chart, it debuted at number 19 on April 16, 2022, and rose to number two. In Malaysia, it debuted at number 19 on the RIM Top 20 Most Streamed International and Domestic Songs for April 1–7, 2022, and rose to number four; on the Billboard Malaysia Songs chart, it debuted at number four on April 23, 2022. In Indonesia, it debuted at number 12 on the Billboard Indonesia Songs on April 23, 2022. In the Philippines, it debuted at number 11 on the Billboard Philippines Songs on April 23, 2022. In Taiwan, it debuted at number seven on the Billboard Taiwan Songs on April 23, 2022. In Hong Kong, it debuted at number nine on the Billboard Hong Kong Songs on April 23, 2022.

Promotion

Ive introduced their single album, including "Love Dive," at a fan event on April 5, 2022. The group then performed on four music shows during the first week: M Countdown, Music Bank, Show! Music Core, and Inkigayo. In the second week, they appeared on five programs, securing first-place wins on The Show, Show Champion, and Music Bank, but not on M Countdown or Inkigayo. During the third week, they performed on The Show and Music Bank, winning first place on both occasions.
