Antarctica
The continent where Adam was found and where Second Impact took place.
Antarctica, the southernmost continent, is the site of Second Impact. In Evangelion's backstory Adam arrived there aboard the White Moon in the distant past, and on 13 September 2000 an experiment on him beneath Mount Markham ended in the explosion that wiped out life across the region.

Background
SEELE sent the Katsuragi Expedition, led by Dr. Katsuragi, to Antarctica, where it found the White Moon, a huge spherical cavity under Mount Markham holding the petrified giant Adam, and a research centre was set up to study him. A contact experiment woke Adam, who destroyed the centre and caused Second Impact; the public was told a meteorite had struck Mount Markham on the Pacific coast. All Lilith-based life nearby, down to microbes, was destroyed by the Anti A.T. Field Adam spread before exploding. The ice shelf melted, raising sea levels around the world, the rest of the land sank beneath the sea, and what remains is a lifeless red ocean with pillars of salt rising from it, the true 'Dead Sea'.
