Team USA represents the United States in international baseball.
The United States national baseball team, commonly called Team USA, represents the country in international play. It is currently ranked third globally by the World Baseball Softball Confederation. The team claimed Olympic gold in 2000 and won the World Baseball Classic (WBC) in 2017. USA Baseball oversees the team, which is based in Cary, North Carolina, where its headquarters and training facilities are located.
The U.S. national team first appeared at the Baseball World Cup—originally the Amateur World Series—in 1938. That tournament was the top level of international baseball for much of its history until it ended in 2011, and the U.S. won it four times. The team has competed in every Summer Olympic baseball tournament except 2004, securing its first Olympic gold in 2000. The U.S. was an original WBC member, debuting in 2006. Its best finish in the first three WBCs was fourth place in 2009. In 2017, the team won its first WBC title by defeating Puerto Rico in the final. The U.S. returned to the championship game in 2023, losing to Japan, and again in 2026, losing to Venezuela.
The U.S. qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics by winning the eight-team Americas Qualifying Event in June 2021. At the Tokyo Games in July and August 2021, the team earned a silver medal after losing to host Japan in the gold medal game. Baseball is not part of the 2024 Paris Olympics, so Team USA will next compete at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

**Early years**
Informal international baseball games between American and Canadian clubs date back to 1860. Baseball debuted unofficially at the 1904 St. Louis Olympics, though few records survive. At the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, an ad-hoc American team—including future Major Leaguer Jim Thorpe—faced a Swedish team that included four Americans. A team of World War I servicemen played Canada at the 1919 Inter-Allied Games in Paris.
Former major leaguer Leslie Mann is credited with forming the first official U.S. national team. He founded the United States Amateur Baseball Association (also called the USA Baseball Congress) on February 19, 1931, aiming to sponsor an international tournament.
