Mexico national baseball team

Mexico fields a national baseball team—known in Spanish as the *Selección de béisbol de México* or the *Novena Mexicana* (Mexican Nonet)—for international competition. As of the most recent rankings, the squad sits fourth in the world. The team is scheduled to take part in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, which will be held in March of that year.

The current roster includes players from professional leagues. Recent and upcoming match results are tracked through the WBSC World Rankings system, with a win/loss/void notation. Mexico has appeared in every edition of the World Baseball Classic since its inception. Batting and pitching statistics for the national team—covering runs, hits, doubles, triples, home runs, RBIs, walks, stolen bases, batting average (minimum 15 at-bats), wins, earned run average (minimum 6 innings pitched), strikeouts, and saves—are drawn from the official WBC website, excluding qualifying rounds, and updated through Mexico’s 2026 participation. Data science tools, including the R language, were used to compile these figures.

In the WBSC Premier12 Tournament, Mexico placed fourth in 2015. At the 2019 Premier12, the team earned a bronze medal. That tournament awarded two Olympic berths for the 2020 Games; Mexico, as the top finisher from the Americas, secured one. Key contributors in 2019 included first baseman/left fielder Efrén Navarro (team-high three doubles, tied for team lead with six RBIs), designated hitter Matt Clark (team-best .440 on-base percentage and .800 slugging percentage, tied for team lead with three home runs), and second baseman Esteban Quiroz (team-high seven walks). Half of the 2019 roster held birth certificates from the United States.

In the Baseball World Cup, Mexico has taken bronze (1941) and silver (1943, 1944, 1961, 1965). At the Pan American Games, the team has won bronze five times: 1951, 1963, 2003, 2007, and 2023. In the Central American and Caribbean Games, Mexico has earned silver in 1926, 1930, 1950, 1954, 1993, and 2010; bronze in 1962, 1970, and 2006; and gold in 2023. Youth teams have also performed well: the U-23 squad won gold at the 2018 Baseball World Cup and silver at the 2021 edition.
