Nicaragua’s national baseball team has been competing internationally since 1939, when it debuted at the second Baseball World Cup (then called the Amateur World Series). The country has hosted that tournament five times and has finished as runner-up on five occasions, most recently in 1990. Nicaragua has also appeared in the Olympic Games twice, in 1984 and 1996. The team first qualified for the World Baseball Classic in 2023 and returned for the 2026 edition. On the regional stage, Nicaragua has made five Pan American Games appearances—in 1983, 1995, 2007, 2015, and 2019—and is a regular participant in the Central American and Caribbean Games, while historically dominating the Central American Games.

Nicaragua first participated in the 2013 World Baseball Classic qualification in November 2012 in Panama City, losing to Colombia and Panama. The squad was managed by Dennis Martínez, the first Nicaraguan to reach Major League Baseball.
