Bankruptcy in 2004 and the climb back under De Laurentiis.

After Diego Maradona left in 1991, Napoli struggled financially, suffered relegations and was declared bankrupt by August 2004. Film producer Aurelio De Laurentiis re-founded the club that year.

Napoli finished third in 2010–11, qualifying directly for the group stage of the 2011–12 Champions League.

De Laurentiis refounded the club as Napoli Soccer, which was placed in the 2004–05 Serie C1. Napoli won promotion to Serie B in 2005–06, and in May 2006 De Laurentiis bought back the name Società Sportiva Calcio Napoli. After one season in Serie B, in 2006–07, the club returned to Serie A.
