Nudge Nudge

Eric Idle's pub innuendo sketch, wink wink.

"Nudge Nudge", properly titled "Candid Photography", is a sketch from the third Monty Python's Flying Circus episode, "How to Recognise Different Types of Trees from Quite a Long Way Away" (series 1, episode 3). Eric Idle wrote it and plays a man who meets Terry Jones's stranger in a pub.

Background

Sitting too close, Idle's character quizzes Jones about his love life with odd questions that turn out to be double entendres, until he admits he wants to know whether Jones has "slept with a lady" and, on hearing yes, asks "What's it like?", a rare Python sketch with a clear punchline. It reappeared in And Now for Something Completely Different (1971) and Monty Python Live at the Hollywood Bowl (1982), and it came 31st in Channel 4's 2005 list of the 50 greatest British sketches.
