Stefán Karl Stefánsson

Last updated

Stefán Karl Stefánsson was an Icelandic actor and singer, born 10 July 1975 and died 21 August 2018.[1] The role of Robbie Rotten, the antagonist in the children's program LazyTown, was his most famous performance.[2]

Key facts and history

He studied at the Drama Academy of Iceland during his years as a puppeteer.[3] He initially knew no English during the early years of LazyTown but soon became fluent.[4] At age 19, in 1994, he began his professional life as a television puppeteer.[3][2] Icelandic drama's conventional approaches did not meet his expectations.[4]

He remembered his high school principal telling him that acting wasn't about altering one's facial expressions, a viewpoint he did not share.[4] Magnús Scheving asked him to take on a role in the second LazyTown stage production.[4] The Order of the Falcon was conferred upon him in June 2018.[5] Actor Magnús Ólafsson was his uncle, and former footballer Hörður Magnússon was his cousin.[5]

What the cited sources add

The same source quoted him saying that complications of ADHD can make life so difficult that "you can lose everyone from you, wife and even the children stop coming to you"[6] The same article noted that his earthly remains would be scattered in secrecy in a distant ocean.[7] In a 2016 interview with ADHD samtökin, Stefán Karl stated that receiving his ADHD diagnosis was a huge relief and that he had been "about to give up on how I felt".[6]
