Ryan Thomas Gosling is a Canadian actor born on November 12, 1980, in London, Ontario.[1][2] He began his acting career as a child on Disney Channel's The All New Mickey Mouse Club and later transitioned to film, gaining mainstream attention for his role in The Notebook.[3][4]

Key facts and history

He was diagnosed with ADHD, prescribed Ritalin, and was homeschooled for a year after being unable to read at age 10.[5] At age 12, he successfully auditioned for a revival of The All New Mickey Mouse Club and moved to Orlando, Florida to film the show.[6] He received critical praise for his performance in The Believer (2001), which won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance.[7] His role in Half Nelson (2006) earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.[8][9]

He made his directorial debut with Lost River, which premiered at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival.[10] He won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for La La Land (2016) and received a second Academy Award nomination for that role.[11][12] In 2023, he played Ken in Barbie, earning nominations for a Golden Globe, BAFTA, and Academy Award.[13][12] He formed the indie rock band Dead Man's Bones with Zach Shields, releasing a self-titled album in 2009.[14][15]

He has been in a relationship with Eva Mendes since 2011, and they have two daughters.[16]

What the cited sources add

The Guardian also states that Gosling and a friend opened a Moroccan restaurant called Tagine in Beverly Hills.[17] In that same interview, Emma Stone expressed a desire to work with Gosling again.[18] The same Guardian piece notes that Gosling prepared for his role in Half Nelson by following a history teacher in Brooklyn, and that his mother taught him at home for a year when he was 10.[17] In a Collider interview, Gosling joked that he did not receive a Tommy gun for Gangster Squad, but was given a "little tiny lady gun" instead.[18]
