Williams' tenure with the Heat began with high expectations but faced challenges as the seasons progressed. In the 2006–07 campaign, he appeared in 61 games and started 55, averaging 10.9 points and 5.3 assists. However, his performance in the postseason struggled significantly, dropping to just 5.8 points and 3.5 assists per game, a factor that contributed to the Heat being swept by the Chicago Bulls in the first round. The following season, 2007–08, saw Williams play 67 games with averages of 8.7 points and 4.6 assists. Despite shooting 41.5% from the field and 35.3% from three-point range, he had notable moments, such as a 34-point performance against Orlando in March where he hit five three-pointers. He recorded two double-doubles that year, both resulting in 21 points and 10 assists against Phoenix and the Milwaukee Bucks. By 2008, his role diminished, leading to his departure before the team's next championship run.
