Jason Williams

The creative point guard who started for Miami's 2006 championship team.

Jason Williams, nicknamed "White Chocolate", is an American former NBA point guard famed for his inventive passing and unconventional flair. Across twelve seasons from 1998 to 2011 he played for the Sacramento Kings, Memphis Grizzlies, Miami Heat and Orlando Magic, but his lone title came in Miami, where he was the starting point guard on the 2006 championship team. The Heat recognized his role in 2007 by naming him one of the top 25 players in franchise history.

Background

A West Virginia native from Belle, Williams played college ball at Marshall University and the University of Florida under Billy Donovan before the Sacramento Kings drafted him seventh overall in 1998. After three seasons there and four in Memphis, he joined Miami on August 2, 2005, along with James Posey, in a thirteen-player trade, the largest in league history, that sent Eddie Jones the other way. His passing had already made him a fan favorite, and in Miami he would share the backcourt with Dwyane Wade.
