Camelot Unchained

A spiritual successor to Dark Age of Camelot focusing on realm versus realm PvP.

Camelot Unchained is an upcoming fantasy massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by City State Entertainment. It was partially funded through a Kickstarter campaign that raised US$4.5 million, with an additional $5 million contributed by lead producer Mark Jacobs and $7.5 million from investors, totaling $17 million. The game uses a proprietary engine designed for server-side physics and large-scale battles, focusing on open world PvP rather than instanced encounters.

Plot

The game takes place after the First Breaking of the World, when the Veil—a border between the world and a magical realm Beyond—was pierced, allowing Dragons to enter. The Veil's violent reactions caused Veilstorms that transformed humanity, creating abominations and new races. Three brothers pulled the swords and became Arthur, Sigurd, and Nuada, each founding a Realm. They built Camelot as a place of peace, but it fell, and the land broke apart into three islands of civilization lost in the Stormlands.

Development

In December 2012, Mark Jacobs and City State Entertainment released a teaser for a three-faction PvP game, later confirmed as a Realm versus Realm game similar to Dark Age of Camelot. A Kickstarter campaign ran from April 2 to May 2, 2013, raising US$2,232,933 from 14,873 backers. After the Kickstarter, additional backer funds unlocked stretch goals. Alpha 1 began on March 3, 2015. Beta 1 was originally scheduled for July 2015 but was delayed after serious flaws in the ability system were discovered in early 2016, requiring a complete rebuild. Beta 1 launched on July 31, 2018. Early access began on June 2, 2026, over thirteen years after the Kickstarter. The game is developed alongside CUBE (Camelot Unchained Building Environment), a block-placing building system with the same graphics and UI, available to all backers 24/7 even during early testing.
