Blidingia minima was described by Johann Kylin in 1947. The species is light green in colour, with fronds that are tubular and 1–10 centimetres long by 1–2 millimetres wide. Its cell arrangement is irregular, with cells 10 micrometres in diameter, and stellate chloroplasts are present. The thalli grow as clusters carrying cylindrical, hollow tubes that arise from a discoidal cushion; these tubes are 1–20 millimetres long and 2 millimetres wide. Thallus cells are 7 micrometres wide and angular.
The type locality is Helgoland, Germany. The species is distributed throughout eastern Asia (China, Japan, Korea, eastern Russia), as well as the Azores, Canada, Norway, South Africa, the United States, and various gulfs, seas, and oceans including the Gulf of Maine, Gulf of Mexico, Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, and Wadden Sea. It is also common in Ireland and Great Britain, and was recorded in East Sussex, England, and Queensland, Australia.
Blidingia minima is found growing on cobble, boulders, bedrocks, barnacles, driftwood, and on different algae species throughout semi-protected and protected areas. It is considered to be a food for periwinkles.
