The Magnum Opus is the car Max Rockatansky builds in the 2015 video game Mad Max. The zealous hunchbacked mechanic Chumbucket has plans for this ultimate war vehicle, and Max agrees to find parts for it so that he can battle the raiders of Scabrous Scrotus and reach the Plains of Silence.
Lore & Background
Searching for a V8 engine for the Magnum Opus, Max learns about a race in Gastown with a Big Chief V8 as a prize. Chumbucket builds an exploding harpoon launcher for it, which lets Max destroy a massive gate protected by War Boys. In the final battle Max rams the wreck with the Magnum Opus, leaping clear while Chumbucket is killed and both vehicles go over the cliff.
Reader's Guide
In gameplay, the Magnum Opus has a V8 engine and a powerful ramming ability. Some weapons and tools, including flamethrowers and turbo boosts, are mounted on it, and it is upgraded with materials scavenged from the desert or taken from enemies' cars. The player customizes it in a garage screen; an enemy can jump on top of it to make it explode unless the car is surrounded with hazards such as spikes.
