Background

It began when Dallas joined the NFL in 1960; the clubs were among the first to hold joint preseason practices, and early on the friendship of Rams owner Dan Reeves and Cowboys executive Tex Schramm kept it friendly, until Schramm accused George Allen of spying on a Cowboys practice. The rivalry peaked in the 1970s and early-to-mid 1980s, when they met eight times in the playoffs and each won four, including Dallas's 28-0 win in the 1978 NFC Championship Game. Dallas leads the overall series 20-18; the Rams lead the nine playoff meetings 5-4.
