Lake Elsinore Storm

History

The Lake Elsinore Storm began as the Redwood Pioneers, later became the Palm Springs Angels, and then moved to their current location. While known as the Palm Springs Angels and then the Storm, the team was the high-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels until the 2000 season ended, at which point they swapped affiliations with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. Several Storm players later contributed to the Angels’ 2002 World Series title. On May 18, 2007, the Storm set a league record with a 30–0 win over the Lancaster JetHawks.

In 2011, Nate Freiman set club records for home runs (22) and RBIs (111). On September 7, 2019, the Storm beat the Quakes 11-2 to win the California League South Division Finals and reach their sixth championship series, which they lost 3-1 to the Visalia Rawhide. In 2021, as part of MLB’s minor league restructuring, the Storm were placed in the Low-A West at the Low-A level. The following year, that circuit was renamed the California League and reclassified as Single-A.
