Lystrup is a manor house and estate located two kilometres west of Faxe, in Faxe Municipality, Denmark. The main building was rebuilt in the late 1600s, and a new south wing was added.
History
Lystrup was created by merging the farms of a village of the same name into a single manor. It is first recorded in 1403 when it belonged to Olsen Godo. After Oluf Pedersen Godov's death, the estate passed to his daughter Regitse Olufdatter Godov, who was married to Palle Andersen Ulfeldt.
Their daughter Mette Ulfeldt married Sivert Grubbe, one of the signatories of the 1536 act instituting Protestantism in Denmark. Grubbe had many children; one son, Jørgen Grubbe, was captured in Turkey and later settled in East Prussia, while another son disappeared abroad. He married Else Laxmand in 1559, became treasurer in 1560, and was appointed Chancellor of the Realm in 1570.
After Eiler Grubbe died in 1585, his son Christian Grubbe inherited the estate and led a quiet life without court offices, marrying at age 37. Christian's son Peder Grubbe, who served in the Torstenson War, inherited Lystrup and kept it despite selling other estates. The property then passed to Peder's son Tønne Grubbe, who was unstable and imprisoned at Kastelle in Copenhagen. He married Wilhelmine Hedevig von Winsheim, but they had no children, and he died in 1721 as the last Grubbe in Denmark.
A few years before his death, Tønne Grubbe had endowed Lystrup to Claus Bendix Beenfeldt, an army officer married to Christine Cathrine Statlander, a niece of Grubbe's late wife. Beenfeldt was dismissed after the Great Northern War ended in 1720, and the family settled at Lystrup. In 1740, he also acquired the neighbouring estate at Jomfruens Egede.
