The giant spider is the humongous spider the boy meets soon after he wakes in the forest at the start of Limbo. It tries to kill him, and the encounter was one of the moments Playdead storyboarded very early in development.

Lore & Background

Using a trap, the boy cuts the sharp points off half of the spider's legs, and it retreats further into the forest so he can pass. Later he is caught in webs and spun into a cocoon. After freeing himself he finally kills the spider following a short chase. Critics singled out how the wind sound falls silent as the spider approaches the boy.
