The Hospital
The fourth chapter of No Mercy: up through Mercy Hospital to the helipad.
The Hospital is the fourth chapter of No Mercy, the first campaign of Left 4 Dead. It takes place inside Mercy Hospital, a modern high-rise in downtown Fairfield that has been overrun by Infected, most of them former patients and staff. The Survivors' goal is to reach the rooftop helipad, where the news-helicopter pilot who hailed them at the start of the campaign can pick them up; his helicopter can be seen circling the building earlier in the campaign.

Lore & Background
According to the CEDA posters in the game, Mercy Hospital is a 30-floor building at 444 South 42nd Street in Fairfield. The Survivors leave the chapter's safe room and fight their way up through the wards until they reach a working elevator that lifts them to the upper floors, still under construction, and on to the roof, where the finale against the hordes plays out.
Reader's Guide
The chapter begins in a safe room stocked with Tier 2 weapons, a spare pistol or Magnum and first aid kits. Close-quarters fighting through the hospital's hallways and side rooms favours the Auto Shotgun; side rooms hold extra supplies and, in the Left 4 Dead 2 version, plenty of oxygen tanks. The main route runs right from the safe room to a stairwell and up through a large atrium, a likely spot for a Tank or Witch. In Left 4 Dead 2 the atrium bathrooms can spawn an M60 and special ammo.
