The Parish
From Virgil's boat to the bridge: the last stand in New Orleans.
The Parish is the final campaign in Left 4 Dead 2, set in New Orleans, Louisiana. Leaving Virgil's boat at the Waterfront Market, the Survivors find the city overrun and the military already abandoning it, covering its retreat with aerial bombing. The route runs from the Waterfront through a memorial park, an overrun CEDA evacuation center, an impound lot, a bombed-out freeway and a cemetery to a military helicopter evacuation point on the far side of the bridge.

Lore & Background
The Parish was the first Left 4 Dead 2 campaign shown, at E3 2009, and its tagline swung between This time it all goes south and Welcome to the Big Uneasy, a play on New Orleans' nickname. The double-decker bridge is probably based on the I-10 bridge over the Mississippi upriver of the city, though the real bridge is not double-decked; the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway is another candidate. Originally the Uncommon Infected here were to be the CEDA workers, but they were replaced by the Riot Infected, and at one stage the military was going to bomb the bridge itself, as seen in the Zombie Survival Guide trailer.
Reader's Guide
The campaign has two gauntlet crescendo events: one at the Bus Station and the Veteran's Bridge finale, where the team must fight its way across the bridge against rapidly spawning waves of Infected. Success is rewarded with a military helicopter and a cut-scene of the bridge being blown up. Riot Infected appear throughout, and two dead CEDA workers in yellow and white suits can also be found.
