The Mystery of Life, Johnny Cash's 77th album, came out in 1991 and marked his final release for Mercury Records. It features new takes on his earlier hits "Hey Porter" and "Wanted Man," along with a remake of "The Greatest Cowboy of Them All." The album reached number 70 on the charts, while its sole single, "Goin' by the Book," peaked at number 69. Drummer W.S. "Fluke" Holland, a longtime Cash sideman, appeared on his last new studio album here.
