The Bowery King

An underground crime boss of New York City, once John's enemy and now an acquaintance.

The Bowery King is an underground crime boss of New York City who goes from enemy to acquaintance of John Wick. In John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum he is described as the head of the Soup Kitchen intelligence network in New York City. When John Wick seeks his aid after a brutal fight with Cassian, the Bowery King is intrigued by John's intent to kill a member of the High Table. He provides John with a Kimber M1911 pistol loaded with seven bullets—one for each million of the contract on John's head—and directs him to an art museum where Santino D'Antonio holds a gala.

Reader's Guide

He is an enemy-turned-acquaintance of John Wick. In Chapter 3 – Parabellum, the Adjudicator gives him seven days to resign for helping John; when he refuses, Zero slashes him seven times with a wakizashi, and he later shelters the injured John and agrees to join forces against the High Table. In Chapter 4, John recovers hiding underground with him, and the Bowery King later arrives in Paris to give John a pistol and a ballistic suit. When John Wick is severely injured after a melee with Cassian, the Bowery King provides him with a Kimber M1911 pistol loaded with seven bullets—one for each million of the contract on John's head.

He also directs John to the art museum where Santino D'Antonio holds a gala. This guidance allows John to attack Santino's subordinates, including Ares. The Bowery King's intervention is a catalyst for the film's climax: John executes Santino in the Continental lounge, leading to Winston declaring John "excommunicado."

Strategic Intelligence and Direction

The Bowery King directs John to an art museum where Santino holds a gala. This guidance allows John to launch a surprise attack on Santino's subordinates, including the deadly mute bodyguard Ares.

The Catalyst for Escalation

By equipping John Wick with the means to attack Santino directly, the Bowery King inadvertently sets in motion a chain of events that leads to the assassination of Santino within the sanctuary grounds of the Continental Hotel. This act forces Winston to declare John 'excommunicado' for violating the sacred rules against conducting business on their premises.
