Making and release
Toei Animation announced production of Dragon Ball Super on April 28, 2015, as the first new Dragon Ball anime series since Dragon Ball GT.[2] The series was originally directed by Masatoshi Chioka, with Morio Hatano sharing the director credit from episode 28 and taking over completely with episode 47.[3] The first opening theme for episodes 1 to 76 was performed by Kazuya Yoshii, with lyrics by Yukinojo Mori.[4] The anime began airing on July 5, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. on Fuji TV.[5]
On January 25, 2026, a remastered version titled Dragon Ball Super: Beerus was announced for the franchise's 40th anniversary.[6] This enhanced edition will premiere on October 11, 2026 at 11:15 p.m. on Fuji TV.[7] For the enhanced edition, Matsuto Seya is in charge of composition and direction, while Tadayoshi Yamamoto handles animation character design and serves as chief animation director.[8]
What the cited sources add
The enhanced edition Dragon Ball Super: Beerus includes newly animated footage, general animation corrections, and newly recorded voice performances.[8] The first episode will have its world premiere at New York Comic Con on October 8, 2026.[7] Norihiro Hayashida, producer of Dragon Ball Kai and Resurrection 'F, stated that criticism of the series' animation was overblown and based on a few bad sequences by new animators.[9] MEGATERA・ZERO performs the opening theme for Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, and Vickeblanka performs the ending theme.[10]
