Background

Uzbekistan, representing the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic, played its first game in 1978 during the Winter Spartakiad held in Pervouralsk, Soviet Union. They competed in six games against other regions and republics, losing all but a 6–1 win over the Lithuanian SSR. In 1982, at the Winter Spartakiad in Norilsk, they again won only once against the Lithuanian SSR, and in 1986, at the Spartakiad in Krasnoyarsk, they lost all three games. The team was inactive after the USSR dissolved in 1991 until 2023.

Uzbekistan played an official game against other national team for the first time in 2023. At the 2023 Kazan Hockey Cup in Kazan, Russia, they defeated Bahrain 17–0, their largest victory against other national team. They also played two games against club and mixed teams: a 4–2 win over the Saudi Arabian club Jeddah Eagles and a 3–2 loss to a mixed team from Algeria, Lebanon and Morocco. The team made its IIHF World Championship debut in 2025 and immediately won Division IV.
