Yugoslavia men's national ice hockey team

Yugoslavia's national team, largely composed of Slovenian players.

Last updated

The men's national ice hockey team of the former Yugoslavia represented the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and its earlier incarnations, but not the later Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The team appeared in five Olympic Games. Its players came overwhelmingly from Slovenia: 91% of all national team members throughout its history were Slovene, and the entire squad at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo was drawn from Slovenia. In the World Championship, the team’s best results included second place in Pool B in 1974 and first place in Pool C in 1979 and 1990.

It also placed third in Pool B in 1966, 1969, and 1973. In the European Championship, the team finished as high as seventh place in 1968. After the breakup of Yugoslavia, the successor national teams are those of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Serbia (which competed as Serbia and Montenegro from 1992 to 2006), and Slovenia.
