Canada won its seventh world title in Milan.

The 1934 Ice Hockey World Championships took place from February 3 to 11 at the Palazzo del Ghiaccio in Milan, Italy. Canada claimed their seventh world title by beating the United States in the final. Germany earned both the World Championship bronze medal and the European Championship crown, their second European title.
Twelve teams competed, matching the previous year's total. Defending champion United States and Canada received automatic berths into the second round. The other ten teams were split into three preliminary groups, with six spots in the second round up for grabs.
In preliminary Group C, all three teams finished tied with two points each and identical goal differentials. The organizing committee decided to advance all three, raising the second-round field to nine teams. This forced a format change from two groups of four to three groups of three.
The group winners moved directly to the semifinals, while the fourth semifinal spot was determined by an extra qualifying round among the second-place finishers. The second and third teams in that qualifying round were awarded fifth and sixth places overall. The six teams that did not reach the semifinals or the qualifying round played a round-robin for positions seven through twelve.
Because Great Britain and Belgium finished last in their preliminary groups (Group C advanced all its teams), they played a qualification match to decide which would join the consolation round. Belgium lost and finished in 12th place.
