Austrian industrial death/black metal band from Innsbruck.
Tristwood are an industrial death/black metal band based in Innsbruck, Austria. The group originally formed in 1996 as December, founded by bassist Deimon and guitarist Neru. Their first release, the MCD *Torment*, was recorded in January 1997 and sold well within the black metal scene. Shortly after, the band dissolved, but in 2001 Neru and Jegger revived the project under the name Tristwood. Deimon returned, and in 2003 they recorded the MCD *Fragments of the Mechanical Unbecoming*, whose use of programming and synthesizers pushed their sound toward industrial metal.
In December 2003, work began on the debut full-length *Amygdala*, followed quickly by a limited box-set edition of *Fragments…* that included a DVD. That same year, vocalist Axumis joined the lineup. In 2005, the band compiled earlier MCDs into the EP *Svarta Daudi*, recorded in just ten hours, and then cut *The Delphic Doctrine* in September. Those recordings caught the attention of Sound Riot Records, who signed the band and released *The Delphic Doctrine* in March 2006, prompting increased touring. Bassist Yak joined in May 2006. The next album, *Dystopia et Disturbia*, was recorded from 2008 and released in 2010.
After a nine-year silence, Tristwood returned with *Nyx* in 2019, followed by *Blackcrowned Majesty* in 2020. The current lineup consists of N (rhythm guitar, synths, programming), A (lead vocals, throat choirs), Y (bass), D (keyboards, additional synths, sampling), J (lead and rhythm guitars, vocals, throat choirs), and HMG (drums). Their discography includes the albums *Amygdala* (2004), *The Delphic Doctrine* (2006), *Dystopia et Disturbia* (2010), *Nyx* (2019), and *Blackcrowned Majesty* (2020), as well as the MCDs *Torment* (1997, as December), *Fragments of the Mechanical Unbecoming* (2003), *Svarta Daudi* (2005), and the single *By the Call of Seth* (2006).
