Meathook Seed was an industrial metal project started in 1992 by Mitch Harris, guitarist of Napalm Death. The project put out two albums.
The first album, *Embedded*, came out in 1993 on Earache Records. At that time, the lineup included Harris alongside Obituary members Donald Tardy and Trevor Peres. Peres, normally Obituary's guitarist, handled vocals for this record. The album contained two instrumental tracks: the title track "Embedded" and "Sea of Tranquility," the latter being a nearly 14-minute hypnotic piece built from alienating electronic sounds, with samples contributed by Shane Embury (also of Napalm Death) and Steve 'Guney'. Early pressings of *Embedded* used printed semi-transparent paper alongside thick, coated paper for the artwork; later editions used only regular paper.
The second album, *Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth (B.I.B.L.E.)*, was released in 1999. It was recorded by Paul "Bag" Siddens and Si Reeves at Chapel Studios in Lincolnshire. The original Obituary members were replaced, and the band's sound shifted from industrial metal to a more industrial rock style. Christophe 'French Out' Lamouret (formerly of the band French Out) took over vocals, while former Benediction drummer Ian Treacy and Napalm Death bassist Shane Embury joined. Longtime Napalm Death producer Russ Russell also joined to complete the lineup.
