Ji Mantriji

Indian adaptation of Yes Minister with Farooq Sheikh.

Ji Mantriji, which translates to "Yes Minister" in Hindi, is an Indian version of the British satire Yes Minister. It first aired on StarPlus on 26 April 2001, with BBC approval. The show stars Farooq Sheikh as Surya Prakash Singh, the Minister of Administrative Affairs, and Jayant Kripalani as his department secretary. The stories mirrored the original but were adapted for an Indian audience. NDTV produced the series alongside BBC Worldwide. Each episode's opening credits featured artwork by famed Indian cartoonist R. K. Laxman, creator of The Common Man. Unlike typical Indian shows developed weeks before airing, Ji Mantriji spent a year in production. Writers swapped France for Pakistan and the European Economic Community for SAARC and the Commonwealth. A sequel, Ji Pradhanmantriji, was also made. Penguin Books published companion volumes in India.
