Format

Each year's competition begins with Producers' Auditions held across various cities in India, open to all acts and judged by an independent group. Those selected proceed to the Judges' Auditions, held in Mumbai studios: Film City, Mumbai (seasons 1–8), Yash Raj Studios, Mumbai (season 9), and Filmistan Studio, Goregaon, Mumbai (season 10–). Participants wait offstage and are given a number; they have 2–3 minutes to perform before a live audience. Each judge has a buzzer and may stop a performance if all three buzz. After the performance, judges give feedback and vote; a majority vote is needed to advance. Many acts that move on may be cut or forfeit due to limited slots. The host stands in the wings to interview and comment on performances. From season 9 onward, acts could submit taped auditions online via SonyLIV. In season 5, the Golden Buzzer was introduced, allowing each judge to send an act directly to the semi-finals regardless of other judges' opinions. The number of golden buzzer uses per judge varies, mostly two. In season 8, the host duo could each use the golden buzzer separately, and in season 10 the host could press it again.
