The War with the TechnoCore
Humanity fights for survival against the machine intelligence that built its own cage.
The conflict between humanity and the TechnoCore runs through all four Hyperion Cantos novels. In The Fall of Hyperion the AI Ummon reveals the existence of a war between human and AI ultimate intelligences.
Lore & Background
The Hegemony believes the Ousters have attacked the WorldWeb, but an autopsy on a supposed Ouster shows the body consuming itself the way Core cybrids do, and the attacks prove to be Core attacks. Told that the TechnoCore resides within the farcaster system, CEO Meina Gladstone orders the farcaster network destroyed. In Endymion and The Rise of Endymion the Core works in secret with the Church and the Pax, supplies the cruciforms and hunts Aenea. Aenea's dying thoughts, broadcast through the Void, set off a widespread rebellion against the Pax and the TechnoCore.
