Story

Frogger is relaxing in Firefly Swamp when a spaceship crashes in his yard, injuring his friend Lumpy. The pilot, Beauty Frog of F.I.R.S.T., recruits Frogger to rescue her colleagues, including Doctor Frog, who can heal Lumpy. Frogger ultimately saves his girlfriend Lily from the villainous T.R.I.P.

Gameplay

The game retains the hop-and-dodge style of the original arcade game but adds new abilities. Frogger can perform a super hop to jump over spaces, move footholds and wall sections with his tongue, and rotate left or right. Story mode is single-player only. Multiplayer mode offers nine mini-games for up to four players, with characters including Frogger, Lumpy, Beauty Frog, Ranger Frog, and Ninja Frog. New mini-games unlock as Frogger completes the training level and all levels in each world.

Reception

The GameCube and PlayStation 2 versions received mixed reviews on Metacritic. In Japan, Famitsu gave the port a score of 30 out of 40. GameSpot called it solid but unoriginal. IGN's Mary Jane Irwin criticized the lack of puzzle challenge and poor controls. Play UK praised the PS2 version for clever levels, creative boss fights, and called it an entertaining evolution of the original concept.
