Narrative history
Story-based historical writing focused on events or structures.
Narrative history is a story-based approach to writing history, often focused on reconstructing short-term events. It has been associated with empiricism since the professionalization of history-writing in the nineteenth century. The term overlaps with Fernand Braudel's concept of histoire événementielle, or event-history, which he contrasted with analyses of long-term trends. Narrative history can be divided into traditional narrative, which emphasizes chronology and individual actors, and modern narrative, which prioritizes structures and general trends.
