Life and work

Brin was born on August 21, 1973, in Moscow, Soviet Union, into a Russian-Jewish family.[3] His father Mikhail was a mathematics professor and his mother Eugenia was a NASA researcher.[3] Brin earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Maryland in 1993 with honors in computer science and high honors in mathematics.[4] They developed the PageRank algorithm and began using Page's dormitory room as a machine laboratory.[5]

Because of antisemitic discrimination, the family submitted a request for an exit visa in September 1978, which led to the immediate termination of his father's employment.[6] Official permission to leave was received in May 1979, and they reached the United States on October 25, 1979.[7][8] In 1993, he began a doctoral program in computer science at Stanford University.[9] The first release of Google was put on Stanford's website during August 1996.[10]
