Last updated
Fortaleza do Monte, also known as Monte Forte, is a fort in Santo António, Macau, built between 1617 and 1626 on 52-metre Mount Hill east of the Ruins of Saint Paul's. It was constructed to protect Jesuit properties from pirates and later became the governor's residence.
It successfully resisted the Dutch invasion attempt of 1622. Part of the Historic Centre of Macau, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The site now houses the Museum of Macau, opened in 1998.
