Lore & Background
It is in Trollesund that Lyra first meets Lee Scoresby, an aeronaut and prospector left stranded in the town by a failed expedition, and Iorek Byrnison, an exiled armoured bear. The townspeople had tricked Iorek into working for them as a metalworker, paying him in alcohol. In Northern Lights the witch consul tells the Gyptians of a prophecy about Lyra that she must not know, and that the witch clans are choosing sides for a coming war. Lee and Iorek both leave Trollesund with Lyra.
Reader's Guide
In the 2007 film The Golden Compass, the Gyptian army sails north to Trollesund in Norwegian Lapland to rescue their abducted children, and Lee Scoresby suggests that Lyra hire him and his friend Iorek Byrnison. In the television series, Trollesund's Magisterium citizens stole Iorek's armour several years earlier, forcing him to work as an indentured labourer.
