Boosted Gear

Lore & Background

The Boosted Gear is a Sacred Gear that contains the soul of Ddraig, the Red Dragon Emperor. The concept of its Balance Breaker was designed by author Ichiei Ishibumi to represent a super-powered version of the gear, which he likens to the Super Saiyan transformation in Dragon Ball and the Bankai in Bleach. The gear's power is tied directly to its wielder, Issei Hyodo, who was revived as a devil by Rias Gremory after being killed by the fallen angel Raynare. The relationship between Issei and Ddraig is symbiotic, with the dragon providing immense magical energy and combat prowess while the human host offers a vessel to interact with the modern world. As the story progresses, their bond deepens from a mere contract into a partnership of mutual respect, allowing them to unlock higher levels of power that transcend standard Sacred Gear limitations.

Reader's Guide

The Boosted Gear functions on a unique multiplication mechanic where the user commands 'Boost' to increase their physical and magical power. This amplification can be repeated indefinitely, theoretically leading to infinite strength, though it places immense strain on the user's body. The gear also possesses 'Dragon Shot,' allowing the user to fire high-energy projectiles from the gauntlet. The weapon evolves through specific stages known as 'Awakenings.'

Initially, it grants basic power boosts and elemental dragon energy. As the user masters the gear, they unlock 'Balance Breaker' forms, which manifest a full red armor suit that drastically enhances speed, durability, and offensive capabilities. Later evolutions allow for 'True Balance Breaker,' granting flight and superior control over dragon energy. Issei Hyodo is the primary wielder, utilizing these abilities to fight devils, angels, and fallen angels.

He often combines his Boosted Gear with other techniques to counter powerful opponents, relying on Ddraig's guidance to survive battles that would otherwise be fatal.
