The Orient Express
The luxury train service where Poirot's most famous case takes place.
The Orient Express was a long-distance luxury passenger train service created in 1883 by the Belgian company Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits, which operated until 2009. It ran across continental Europe between Paris and Istanbul, with branches to Athens, Brussels and London. In Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express, Poirot boards the Simplon-route service in Istanbul and investigates a murder on board while the train is stalled in snow.
