Philosopher's Stone
Nicolas Flamel's ruby-red Stone of gold and eternal life.
The Philosopher's Stone was a legendary alchemical substance. The ruby-red Stone could turn any metal into pure gold and produce the Elixir of Life, which made whoever drank it immortal. The only Stone known to have existed was made by the French alchemist Nicolas Flamel. During the 1991–1992 school year Lord Voldemort tried to steal it at Hogwarts; his last and almost successful attempt was foiled by eleven-year-old Harry Potter, which delayed Voldemort's return to power.
