Reader's Guide

Michael and his niece Jamie Lloyd have been held by the Man in Black and his Druid-like cult. Jamie gives birth, escapes with her baby and is killed by Michael, but she has hidden the child, whom Tommy Doyle finds and names Steven. Tommy believes Michael is under the influence of Thorn, a Druid curse that drives a person to kill their family on Halloween, and that Steven will be his final sacrifice.

The Man in Black is revealed to be Dr. Terence Wynn, chief administrator of Smith's Grove. Cult members, helped by Mrs. Blankenship, take Kara Strode, her son Danny and Steven to Smith's Grove. Wynn tells Loomis the staff have been studying pure evil to learn to control it. Michael turns on the cult and kills them all; Tommy, Kara and the children escape, while Loomis stays behind and his fate is left unknown.
