Aliya Farkhatovna Mustafina, born 30 September 1994, is a Russian former artistic gymnast. She won the all-around world title in 2010 and the European all-around crown in 2013, and she is a two-time Olympic uneven bars champion (2012 and 2016). With seven Olympic medals, she is tied with Svetlana Khorkina for the most Olympic medals ever won by a Russian gymnast (excluding the Soviet Union women's team). Mustafina is also the ninth gymnast to have earned medals on every event at the World Championships.
Mustafina was born in Yegoryevsk, Russia. Her father, Farhat Mustafin, a Volga Tatar from the Mishar village of Bolshoye Rybushkino in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, won a bronze medal in Greco-Roman wrestling at the 1976 European Championships. Her mother, Yelena Kuznetsova, is an ethnic Russian and a physics teacher.
She first made a mark internationally at the 2007 International Gymnix in Montreal, taking second in the all-around. That year she also placed second in the all-around at the Stella Zakharova Cup and at the Japan Junior International, where she was runner-up in all four event finals. In 2008, at the European Junior Championships in Clermont-Ferrand, she helped the Russian junior team to gold and earned silver in the all-around. Later that year, competing as a senior at the Massilia Cup, she placed sixth all-around and second on floor. At the 2009 Russian nationals, she won the senior all-around title and took gold on balance beam. She also won the all-around at the Russian Cup and at the Gymnasiade in Doha, where she took gold on uneven bars, beam, and floor.
In 2010, after missing the Russian nationals due to injury, Mustafina competed at a World Cup in Paris, placing second on beam. At the European Championships in Birmingham, she helped Russia win the team gold and took silver on uneven bars and beam. She then won the all-around at the Russian Cup and swept event medals. At the 2010 World Championships in Rotterdam, she became the first gymnast since Shannon Miller and Svetlana Khorkina in 1996 to qualify for the all-around final and all four event finals. She led Russia to the team silver, won the all-around title, and took silver on vault, uneven bars, and floor, finishing with five medals—more than any other gymnast at the meet.
